BECAUSE UGANDA POPULATION IS YOUNGER…
IN UGANDA THERE IS NO CIRCUS AND BESIDES SOME CHALLENGES THE PEARL OF AFRICA HAS POSITIVE ASPECTS:
-
- It is not a big country
- It has good security in all areas
- There are basic infrastructures and services
- Good political stability
- There are many organizations working on behalf of children and youth
WHY KAMPALA?
-
- It is Uganda’s capital city
- There are many children and schools
- There are many organizations working on behalf of children and youth
- It is the headquarters for governmental bodies, embassies and international organizations
- Many roads converge and depart
- There are basic infrastructures and services
- It is possible to select qualified staff
Outdated school syllabi with lack of extra-curricula activities/information and publicized positive behaviour models addressed to the society adversely impact the ambitions of youth and communities with serious negative implications for people’s everyday life, health, environment protection, rights, school dropout, social skills development, education opportunities, work and Uganda future at large. We have identified Uganda as having great potential to benefit from HCU, because its population is younger that of any other place on earth with 52% of its inhabitants – about 22 million – are below 15 years of age and there is a great need to address relevant crosscutting social information to children, youth and communities and HCU is an effective tool in accomplishing this mission.
Because the youth, living in slums, remains one of the least understood, vulnerable and difficult groups to reach even if various organizations, who work into these realities, have made some improvements in addressing few basic needs. But the complexity of those needs, the high number of youths – 80% of them unemployed – coupled with the lack of essential facilities and incentives, makes the transition to an independent and healthy living difficult to achieve for the majority of them.
